Is anyone familiar with New York Institute of Photography? I've seen the school advertised in various magazines and I've checked them out on the web, but I'm looking for some honest feedback if anyone has completed their courses.
Interesting comment from Trish. It seems odd that such a prestigious institution would send comments to students on tape. Who'da thunk it? ... But, I will say this; I've been a subscriber of their monthly newsletter on the web for years now. I always look forward to it with anticipation because there is always something in there from which I can learn. I know they have a top reputation. Good luck with your choice... keep us posted.
Hi Ralph. I took the course back in the early 90's and I ended up stopping half way through. Very outdated info, even up till now, and I just found it to be so basic a course that I just stopped. Sure they are a well known institute and you can learn from them but it just wasn't for me. Most of what I have learned in photography was self taught or watching others and learning that way. It's also still quite a pricey course when you're better off spending your money in other ways. If I lived in your area, I could teach you at a fraction of the cost that it would cost if you took the course. Good luck and happy shooting..:)
Took their basics course earlier this year. It's designed for the beginning photographer. They have excellent materials, but
IMO, they're a little pricey for what you get. I got some good pointers and a small amount of feedback on my submitted photos. (The feedback was on CD.) If you've ben involved with photography for more than a couple of years, you might be
wasting your money. You may wish to check out local camera clubs in your area. You'll learn a whole lot at much less cost.
"Hi! thanks for the observation on some flaws on the photo. Yup, i guess i missed some important details on that one. I was kind of zooming in on the couple and i practically forgot some details, like the feet. I have other photo of them taken from…"
