browsing thru the photos varjous people have posted, I am impressed with the quality that is showing up. Hence in order to help me learn more about the photography experience I wonder if there is some way the site administrators could provide the wherewithal for the postees to include exif data and photoshoping/computer darkroom manipulation explanations for their postings.
I was part of a site called, Digital Photo Forum in Australia. They closed the site down recently, but they definitely had a facility that when you uploaded your photo, it uploaded the Exif data along with it an it was displayed automatically once the image was uploaded. There must be a way in which this is done, because it's been done on other sites.
Sorry I can't refer you guys to other sites that are doing this kind of thing.
I agree that the admins should have the EXIF data read/displayed from the pics as they are uploaded.
For one thing, as a new photographer myself, this information has been abundantly helpful with me learning my own camera settings, and a basis of what settings to use in certain scenarios.
Also, as a webmaster myself, I can tell you it's relatively easy to have the site do all the work. They could even give each photographer the option to turn the EXIF viewing on/off. Although, all the photographer would have to do is save the pic without the exif if they didn't want to show it.
I've been a member of several photography websites, and everyone of them show the exif, including my own personal website.
Any photos altered may or may not keep the EXIF, depending on the software used and how the photo is saved.
As far as slides and film, I'd just say the photographer has the choice of including it in his/her description, as they do now.
As far as the comment about most photos not even having the title or description implying the photographers wouldn't bother with EXIF..well, if the site admins made it automatic, they wouldn't have to do anything more than they are now. Besides, some people just don't like all the "little stuff" like editing titles. I find it very tedious myself.
The plugin for Firefox is awesome, but again, in my opinion, the EXIF reader being built into the site itself is just part of being a good photography website.
