Can I use my old lens with a Nikon D40?

I'm really sure that I can't use AF-s nikkor lenses with my FM3A, but I was just wondering if I can use my 35mm lens and the 55mm lens with the Nikon D40. Those lenses are old ones..

You can, but it will not auto-focus.

Great! yeah I know it can't auto focus. But if I adjust the aperture setting in the lens? would it affect the aperture setting in the camera?
