The Photography Network - PictureSocial

I'd love to get some feedback, weather it's positive or negative on my photos. I've only been taking pictures for a couple of months and have no real experience or education background with photography, which I'm planning to go take some classes once I can afford it.

I just want to know some things that I could do better, what's wrong with the photo, etc etc.....don't be afraid to be harsh, I love harsh criticism simply because it makes you a better person if you actually take the advice to heart. Anyways enough rambling, here's a couple of the photos I'd like some feedback on!

If you click on the pictures it'll bring you to my flickr website and to a bigger size..

Not sure what a fill flash!? haha, I'm completely ignorant at this right now! With the second picture, I had my filter on my other lens, forgot to change it :( I need another one.
or reflectors/bounce cards. But in this case I like the shadows...the calf and the fence rails are opposites and so are the barn wall and the shadowy door way.
Awe, well thank you so much, I have taken to that one quite a bit myself, he's so cute, haha, thanks again
No, I don't have my own business, I just do it for fun, I'd love to be able to sell some photos though, but I don't think they are good enough to sell.
Hi Emma, my advise..... don't give up!!
Start from scratch, regardless on how long it takes because you will feel great when you get them spot on. It's unfortunate that the first attempt went wrong but it's a mistake that we have all made (I did the same thing 7 weeks ago, 85 pics had to be redone before printing).
So don't give up, you must be good at it otherwise your friend wouldn't have asked you to do them. Make her proud :o)
Emma, when she goes to print them they do not stretch or compress them, they crop them. Because there is no "one" aspect ratio that fits all sizes of print. Just make sure she is centered and that her head is not too close to the top of the frame. Uless she had a particular size in mind...if so, and you have photoshop, then just set up an action script and run a batch...let the comp do all the work...because isn't it why the comp was invented? :-)
Def. don't give up, it's so much fun taking pictures and if you didn't save the edited ones over the originals you can still edit them how you want, I love editing pictures, it's fun to me, i spend hours doing it and never realize where the time goes, just keep it up, if you ever need any help, feel free to message me, haha, i always have time as I'm a stay at home mom!
Hi, hope you've been working on copies and not the originals ? If you're working on the originals you can never go back. Photography and post processing is always a work in progress. Just keep practicing and when you think you're doing good - don't stop practicing.
heather, though belated, i liked ur photos. first becoz the calf is in action and second the red BG is an attracting feature....not disturbingin the picture.....otherwise red is very overpowering colour.
in second pic u cud have large aperture to keep thing in the BG out of focus............i know u will say, i do not know all this, and doing for fun.....and still inviting criticism. very good. all the best.
HI HEATHER THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THESE TWO PHOTOS,THERE'S AWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.I LOVE ANIMALS,THE FIRST PHOTO OF THE CALF IS VERY NICE,YES I THINK YOU COULD'VE USE A LITTLE FLASH TO FILL THE SHODOWS,ALSO YOU CULD INPROVED THE FOCAL POINT BY CROPPING HALF OF THE SUBJECT'S BODY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FRAME THAT WAY ELIMINATING THE HARD SHODOW ON THE BACKGROUND.I WOULD ALSO LEAVE OUT ONE THIRD ON TOP OF THE PHOTO THIS WOULD LEAVE YOU WITH A MUCH BETTER COMPOSITION(LEARNABOUT THE RULE OF THIRDS IN COMPOSITION IS EASIER AFTER THAT)ENDING WITH THE HEAD OF THE CALF CLOSE TO THE TOP RIGHT CORNER IN THE FRAME.
THIS PHOTO OF THE BIRD IS BEAUTIFUL,THE MIX OF GREENS AND BLUES TOGETHER WITH EXOTIC ANIMAL AND PLANT SHAPES ON THE BACKGROUND GIVES YOU THIS PARADISE RELAXATON KIND OF FEELING.
I LOVE THE FRAME SPECIALY THE FONT TYPE ON THE TITLE.
THIS IS A MUCH BETTER COMPOSITION YOU FRAMED BETWEEN FRAME USING THE TREE AND PLANT BRANCHES TO FRAME THE KING.VERY NICE!
ON THIS PHOTO A LITTLE LESS DEPT OF FIELD TO SOFTEN THE FORGROUND AND BACKGROUND WOULD'VE BEEN NICER LEAVING THE BIRD WITH A MUCH LESS DISTRACTING SORROUNDING.
KEEP IT UP HEATHER YOU'RE DOING VERY GOOD!!
