Hello all photography enthusiasts,

I saw no mention of Adobe Lightroom, which a $199 photography software program developed by Adobe Systems, designed to assist professional photographers in managing thousands of digital images and doing post production work. It is an image management application database which helps in viewing, editing and managing digital photos.

I find it very useful, since it is fast, produces good results, and allows me to look through my raw files. I love the simplicity of this program, yet how much can be achieved with so little. I especially love the presets I can apply to my photos, which can eliminate much wasted time.

Has anyone had experience with Lightroom? How do you like it? What are your thoughts?

Thank you very much for your explanation. I'll put Lightroom at the top of my "wish list." Sounds like this is what I've been wanting (and needing . . .)
I upgraded to LR2 and CS4 from CS2. I really enjoyed using LR2, but switched back to Camera Raw once I realized all the same editing options were available in CS4 Camera Raw. I never got the hang of the whole cataloging thing, although I admit I never really gave it much of a chance. I've got my own organizing system, and I may be in too deep to change now. :) I think for most photographers of all levels Lightroom is a fantastic deal at $200 if you don't want to go with the much more expensive Photoshop. LR2 covers 90% of my processing needs. If I were to do it over again though, I would've only bought CS4. Since I don't take advantage of the organizing the rest of the LR features are sort of redundant.

Although in the future I may only have to upgrade my LR which should be cheaper. The features I need that are only in Photoshop don't don't change as often as the basic editing tools.
I like Apple's aperture 10 fold over light room for organization, batching and quick minor edits. The workflow is a lot more intuitive.
I wouldn't buy any presets. There are quite a few quality free lightroom preset sites out there. My favorite is http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/archives/presets/
I got Abode Lightroom for free from http://torrents.ru/forum/index.php website. This website is in Russian language and you need to create login and password before you enter the website. The website has a lot to offer. Unfortunately you can't copy too many programms because they expect you to share your own softwear (if you have smth interesting) otherwise you are considered a leach and they close your accsess. I even downloaded a guide for the Lightroom.
Careful treading there Natalia. Although torrents are a source for free software of all types, dangerous viruses and all kinds of nasty things lurk on those types of sites....also you shouldn't be showing people how to get the software for free, that's illegal.
Definitely one of the best photo editing tools I've ever used with sideshow options web design, RAW file capability...Light room doesn't miss anything.
I agree completely. Having used Photoshop for many years, I was blown away with the features of Lightroom. I now process everything I shoot through lightroom first, before jumping into Photoshop for final or serious edits.
Ohhh, how I love Lightroom! I used to take ages doing all my processing in Photoshop, but since Lightroom added local adjustment brush capability, I would say about 70% of my post-processing is now done in Lightroom only. It's so fast, so intuitive ... Dream software in my opinion!
