OK, here's the deal. I love the idea of taking great photographs...but.....am not confident about my ability.
I am going on holiday to Las Vegas on Tuesday and have a helicopter flight booked over and into the Grand Canyon.
My kit is basic..Canon 400D + kit lens (18-55mm) + Sigma 18-200mm DC OS lens + UV filter + Circ Pol filter.
I have a tripod but don't want to lug it from the UK and also have a remote for the shutter
I am never going to go to the GC or LV again (I don't imagine) and so the pressure is on (in my mind) to get great shots.
Any (and I mean any) advice welcome.
The heli flight is from around 2.15pm to 6pm but clearly the rest of the visit is not time dependant. I am reading everything I can on tips and techniques but your insight is more than welcome :)
Since the Scenery around and in the Grand Canyon are all spectacular and the vistas cover such great distances, I would say start with the UV and shoot, shoot, shoot, when in doubt Bracket, don't get caught short with memory or batteries. For the helo ride I would plan on 500 frames. there is going to be snow in many places, so it should even more spectacular. The area is famous for brilliant sunsets. Looks like your equipment is sufficient for the task, unless you plan on a lot of indoor flash, then I would consider something on a bracket off camera with bounce capabilities. The on camera flash creates lots of red eye and ugly shadows. lots of night time photo ops in Vegas. one last word - no one ever complains that they took too many photos when on holiday. Good Luck!! Please show us your results.
Wow, a helicopter flight would be really cool there. Good luck. I would just take a ton of photos at different settings. Maybe try a few different filters as well.
