The Photography Network - PictureSocial

Just a few lines to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Mike and ran across this site last week while browsing for PS tutorials. I saw the link on the Picture Correct website. So glad to have found it and thnks to everyone for the warm welcome.

About me, I'm 47 years old and born raised in Louisiana, I got my first camera at 18 years old. It was a Canon AE-1 that I bought when I got out of high school in '78. I lost that camera in a house fire in '82 and never got another until I bought a Canon SD 550 for work in 2005. I used the camera mostly for taking pictures of the construction work being done to document the progress or to take pictures of any problems that would arise that I then sent to the project engineer for his/her input. (a picture is worth a thousand words). In the process I started taking pictures of sunset/rises and that sparked my interest for photography again. I started browsing websites that had anything to do with photography and started reading reviews. I ended up getting a Rebel XT in January of 2006 for a late christmas present and have been enjoying taking pictures again evert since. I now own and Rebel XTi and a 40D and various lenes. Please feel free to drop by and leave some constructive criticism of my photos or ask me any questions. I will be glad to help with anything I can and only expect the same in return.

Your lucky to own a 40D, I hear thats a great camera!
Hello Steve, I love the 40D a lot. The Live view is nice and it does offer the dust and moister proof features of the more exspensive cameras. Rght now I'm trying to figure Canon out. They just introduced another new camera with 12.2 meagapixels and a lot of the features of the 40D. Granted it is more consumer targeted and cheaper than the 40D but it shouldbe an awesome mera. Check out the qoute from DPReview:

""We've had a little more time to really dig around in the new features of Canon's latest baby DSLR, the 450D (Digital Rebel XSi). Many of its new features have been passed down from the semi-pro-level EOS 40D, meaning the 450D promises to put a lot of power in your hand for a very reasonable sum. Here are some further details about the features it offers over the 400D / XTi.""

Thanks Trisha, I agree 100% about the inspiration factor. Thats what is so nice about a community like this where everyone is so friendly and willing to help out. Just by sharing our work we can inspire someone who finds a paticular shot touching or attractive to the eyes.

Roger ,,,
Thanks Roger, its great to be here. I have been on myspace for about 6 mo. and never thought about a community for photographers. Great site!
40D, yea I like it a lot. I was shocked with the shutter burst rate. It hits 6 frames in 1 sec. Couldn't imagine what a real pro camera like the Mark3 - 1Ds is like. I will hopefully put the 40D to the test the first week end in April at the Nascar Race at Texas Motor Speedway. I'll post a couple pictures if everything goes ok.
