That's nice! So you're saying that no one who loves taking really good picts with their point and shoot should ever upgrade to good expensive camera and possibly change their lives? How do you know the next Ansel Adams isn't out there right now, possibly reading that group of yours and is now not going to buy that camera? Nice job.
An expensive camera does not make the photographer but if a good photographer upgrades to a nicer camera is not wrong either. The quality is better and they can print larger photos of their work.
There are good photographers with point and shoots and can not afford to buy the nicer camera. Which can be very frustrating also. Every good artist needs the proper equipment.
There are people that do think that the camera makes the photographer, which a real bad misconception. It just helps them get higher quality and detail of a bad picture.
