Hi All, I am shooting a wedding ceremony and couple only this Sunday(2 days time) for about 2 hours, but it is in the late afternoon on the beach. Is it advisable to shoot in RAW format as I would be able to adjust exposure problems later on pc? The only problem is that I have not shot in RAW format yet. I also won't have enough time to practise much . . . Also note that my Canon 450D is still new and I have only practised with it, and shot only one wedding with it a few weeks ago. So I'm still getting used to it.

Hi!, Raw is the format to use for ultimate image quality though it does use up a lot of space on your memory card and computer. Set aside an hour for yourself to take a few photos in Raw, upload them to your Raw editing & conversion software (this will check that the software does recognise your camera type & model), then have a play around. I am not familiar with the 450D but i would be surprised that,if you check the manual, it wouldn't allow you to take a Raw + jPEG photo at the same time. The same rules apply to taking photos in Raw as in jPEG, theres nothing different, just try to get your exposure as accurate as possible as even Raw does have it's exposure correction limits. Don't be afraid to try it. Good luck!.
Always shoot RAW for anything you're going to charge a client regarless of the job. If the 450D does support RAW+JPEG shooting (as Steve suggested), I'd use that option so you'll be able to have a quick representation of the shot prior to processing the RAW file. You really need a larger capacity storage card (several of them) when you do shoot RAW or RAW+JPEG...they do take up quite a bit of space.

I use raw all the time and use the largest file size. download lightroom beta3(its free). works well with canon, I have 450d. I use adobe psp to print. I also set the camra to under expose in auto one strop down for its easier to adjust an under exposed pic. This will work well with your ttl flash. Most inportant try this yourself before the wedding to make sure you are comfortable doing this. I can print lgr pics (13x19) in the raw file mode with out it being grainy looking. check my photo album they were all shot in raw. Make sure you have 3 or 4 8gb ultra fast write ssds that write 60gb a sec, raw file can be 15mb in size.

Lightroom Beta3's "Beta" period has ended. Once the new version of Lightroom was commerically available, the beta version expires. This was supposed to happen on April 1st. I already got a notification e-mail from Adobe telling me of the expiration.

Mike :)
does this mean my pgrm will end?
It's supposed to mean the functionality will stop. I'm not sure if all functions will end or just some of the "major" functions will. I haven't used my beta copy since getting the notification.

You can always purchase the upgraded (new) version to open up all functionality, though.

Mike :)
I just checked the Adobe website and Adobe has released a new Lightroom 3 Beta 2 which "will expire on June 30, 2010."

The Adobe Lightroom 3 Beta 2 web address is "http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom3/." This new beta 2 will apparently load over the first beta but not affect any of the first beta's catalogs.

Have fun!

Mike :)
I am glad I kept beta 2
Thanks Guys for your coments, the 450D does have the option for RAW + Jpeg shooting. I checked it out, and was prepared to go that route, but realised I need more memory cards. I have only one 8GB high capacity card. I guess that should be my next purchase very soon.
I'll also take your advice of shooting every job for a paying client in Raw + Jpeg.
Thanks once again, will have a look at the Lightroom link you posted ... need to fix my pc first (It couldn't start up yesterday, showed some registry file error.)
