My first SLR was a Hanimex Praktica camera sold at JC Pennys as their "SLR-1" camera. The "SLR-1" name was actually only printed on a thin aluminum covering they glued to the front of the prism housing. Needless to say, the aluminum's corners started to bend, so I took it off and low and behold, the real name was shown.

I had a great time with that camera. Though it used screw-mount lenes, I didn't mind since I thought of the screw-mount as more precise and stable.

However, a few years and many thousands of photos later the metal focal-plane shutter developed a quirk. It seemed to not be operating properly. On bright scenes, the bottom of the negative was always slightly over exposed. Oh well.

I still had a lot of fun learning photography with that camera.

Mike :)
