Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing a Wacom Intuos III size 6x8 any of you that have experience using this tablet that has any thoughts on good and bad about it? I want it to edit pictures with rather than using my mouse I am hoping it will be easier to make small and more accurate adjustments with a pen than it is with a mouse.
H
I use one, have had the Intuos 6x8 for about a year now. I spend most of my day working in Photoshop CS3 (I co-own a digital photo lab), and have no idea how I got along without it! It's become my main mouse for pretty much everything I do on screen, even browsing the web. I have a track-ball too, but find myself reaching for my Wacom pen by habit, even at home on my laptop.
There is a learning curve for sure, which is where most people give up. But I plowed thru it, knowing this would be a much better tool for the work I do, took at least of couple weeks, and it has paid off. There is no way I could do some of the creative brush work and/or restorations I do with a simple mouse, or even my track-ball which I'm very good at too. I used it for my CAD work for many years, but now it's pretty much all Wacom.
The pen pressure feature did take some additional learning too, but again, what a great tool to have. That's the main difference between the Bambo and the Intous, is the amount of pressure range, and the build quality. Mine's bullet proof.
I could not work without my wacoms!! I took to it right away, just set up your preferences first. Now find a mouse hard to work with.
I do like the smaller size of pad, less hand movement needed.
I think it is a must for artistic types.
The Bamboo is cheap and does alot, try it, if you don't like, it is easy sold
good luck

I have one. It takes getting use to, but without question the pen is mightier than the mouse. Especially useful when more accurate selection and drawing/painting is required in Photoshop.
Hi I was thinking to do the same. There is the new Intuos 4 out there that apparently is even better. Maybe check on websites such as deviantart or imaginefx.co.uk for reviews...they can help for sure to let you decide.
Hello Shippey,
I am wondering the same thing along with some other stuff regarding the use of PhotoShop. So, I will keep an eye on your post. My problem - I cannot draw a straight line with a computer that is programed to do just that.
Thanks guys. Lots of input I am glad to see that at least some of you love your wacom tablets. There were so many comments in the beginning that didnt like it... But it hasn't scared me away. I will get mine soon in a few weeks so we will see how long it will take me to get used to it. Wish me luck.. ;-)
Hi Shippey,
I have a wacom intros III and use it all the time for my photo edits. It allows me more control over edits as you can decide how much of a change you want by the pressure and brush size you select. the tablet also allows you more precise edits of small areas of the photos such as the eyes.
I don't own one, but I've used one a lot. It's great for digital artworks, such as drawing/painting on the computer, but I find that for regular photography, it's a pain.
I do love it though. It's very responsive to the pen, and I like that when you flip it over it knows to erase. It makes life so much easier. It takes a long time to get used to though....
