I'm looking at picking up Aperture to take my photo editing to the 'next level'. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I've heard Photoshop is THE program to have.. but prices. Any thoughts on Aperture (good or bad), and even vs. Photoshop I would appreciate!

Photoshop is an editor that does light organizing via Bridge. Photoshop Elements may meet your editing needs and it comes with a basic organizer as well.
You can download trials from the Adobe page that are fully functional for 30 days. I don't know if Apple offers anything like that for Aperture.

Permalink Reply by Cheryl Butler on January 3, 2012 at 8:52am Jennifer-I agree with you. The price of Photoshop cs5 is almost cost prohibited. I use Apple and was at a point where iPhoto was no longer doing the job for me. I wanted to learn one program and stick with it. After researching the subject, I determined Photoshop cs5 was for me but out of my price range. I found journeyed.com and bought it through them. My son is a college student and I used his student id. After all, who is paying the bill for him, eh? I purchased it at a fraction of the cost and I am delighted with it. I haven't noticed a difference in the product. I have added Nik Software to it and Photoshop accepted it just fine in its list of Filters. If you know of someone who is a student, you might want to check it out. Just be sure they are not interested in purchasing it since it is a one time purchase only. Best of luck to you.

It does most of the stuff photoshop does at a fraction of the price (less than a 100$). My main issue with it in its earlier versions was its speed comparative to Photoshop but the latest version seems to have taken care of it. You can also edit in raw if you prefer
