Hey Guys . My name is Jesse I am at a point in my photography career wer i want to start"printing"
my photos for galleries and such . what is the best format to do so? I want to print large 20x30 or bigger and random smaller sizes . I am concerned about quality . I hear tiff but wanted to make sure from my buddies on Pic Social .
One last question . I have a collection of photos i have already saved in jpeg . can i re save that photo as a tiff or do i have to re edit the original and save it again as tiff ?
Thank you very much . any tips would be very much appreciated : ) .

If the file out of the camera is JPEG, it is only 8 bits. Every additional bit doubles the information available. Going from more bits to less bits discards information. Going back to more bits does not restore what was discarded.
Ask the printer operator what they want. They should be able to tell you what format, and how many pixels per inch as well as colour gamut.
I expect you will be going back to the original file and reworking it for best results.
Hi Jesse,
as CC mentions, it's essential to re-work the raw negative if you are up-rezzing to that size.
Normal work-flow is to either save as unsharpened .PSD if you are working layers or .Tiff.
I print 16bit tiff in the Adobe 98 color profile @ 36x24 inches - for galleries you need a premier quality image.
Also make sure you have to proper media and printer profiles imported into CS5.
