I'm going on a family trip to Mexico and I was wondering if anyone had any tips to keep my camera safe. I have an SLR with a couple of lenses. Some friends suggest bringing a compact camera but I think a trip to an exotic destination is the perfect place for an SLR. Also, should i bring along a tripod or will i stick out like a sore thumb?
Thanks Susan. I feel more at ease now about bringing my camera along. I'm going to pick up a polarizer and the tripod tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to this trip. We're going to the Mayan.
I don't know what kind of camera it is you have but they sell camera skins to protect your camera from sand and dust that kind of stuff (not water). I just recently purchased one for my canon and I love it. I will admit it took some getting used to but living in Florida where sand is very hard to avoid I had to have it. Like susan said don't change the lenses in the sandy areas because the skin will not protect the inside of the camera. Have fun!!
I have a Nikon D90 and I'm going to get a polarizing filter so i'll look into a skin as well. I will definitely be taking pictures on the beach so sounds like a good idea to get one. Thanks for all the feedback and can't wait to post my pictures when i get back. I'm not leaving till the end of this month though.
I was looking into polarizing filters for my camera and saw that they vary in price. Do you think i need to spend $300 on one or would a $150 work just as well
I think I was misinformed about the filters. I ended up buying a Hoya for $125 which is one of the better ones. I also bought the largest Gorillapod (for dSLR with zoom lens). That was $49.99(CAD) Thank you everyone for your input. Picturesocial really is a great site.
