I have a D 90 I really enjoy and lots of lenses, all Nikon. I'd love to step up a bit. Any educated suggestions and why you would reccommend a different Nikon.

for some people the D90 is already enough.
However, if you need a faster focusing (for sports or wildlife) for instance or better images, then the 300s or the its anticipated successor is perhaps a good choice since you probably have DX lenses. If you have FX lenses, then full frame cameras are really better especially if you shoot night shots, like those stars, because of higher ISO.
Permalink Reply by Fred on February 4, 2012 at 9:35pm I would hold back from any purchases at the moment. When Nikon announced the new D4 they also removed the D300s and D700 from sale in 75% of the world. There is a huge electronics show, very shortly, where Nikon will be showing off their new cameras but what is wrong with the D90? A very nice camera.
If you can not wait, go for the D7000, if you can find one - the shortage is due to the damage to factories in Japan and Thailand. Do remember when the new models appear on the market, the older units are heavily discounted to get rid of the stock
To improve things how about investing in good glass, f/2.8 should be a minimum

Nikon D7000 and D300s are newer models but they aren't that much better then D90, if you are looking at one of the two then go for D7000 as it has better performance then the D300s. Or wait for an update for D300s/ D700 and get those cameras, in the mean time save up money.

Also one of my friend got his D700 3 years ago from New York brand New with Warranty for $1500. Depend where you look and what kind of deals there are.
Also people are selling there D300 for $500 used on Craigslist.
Permalink Reply by Fred on February 5, 2012 at 3:56am One problem, all the photographers that want cameras that I know will have problems importing cameras from the USA, any person in Europe has the same problem, we can import from China and Hong Kong easier than the USA.
The other problem is they all want new units not second hand. If you are going to purchase a second hand unit, you need it in your hands, it has to be checked thoroughly. They will all have to wait for production levels to improve after the devistation.
Permalink Reply by Sajid Fakir on February 6, 2012 at 4:54am I bought the newer D7000 after suing the D90 for a year. After using the D7000, I don't think I needed to upgrade. The D90 is a great camera. Hold on to your money.
