The DOF is good. Lighting is a little harsh. I would have taken another angle so as to not include any dead flowers (bottom right, also portions of the dark purple one in the center). I would also crop out the top. The top right (maybe a planter?) is distracting. Just my opinion...
Excellent photo here Renee! I only have a few complaints
The not-fully developed flower coming out on the left side is a distraction. You may have thought it added interest to the picture but to me it only ruins the otherwise perfect pattern made by the other flowers.
The focus is excellent! I might try a different point of view or crop to try and get what i assume is a grille out of the picture.
That's all I can really find to say. I also reccomend trying some post-processing techniques to really make those flowers pop!
Harsh shadows, never take pictures of flowers in direct sunlight.
Dead Flowers
Crop out the "Red Area" at the top.
Lower angle would be better.
Grass and dead flowers in bottom right hand corner
Colour is not right as it is taken in sunlight
Renee: I'm not sure what your impressions are of it. It might help to give us why you like it, dislike it.
The flaws: The lighting looks muted. There needs to be more vibrancy. The angle for shooting is a little off also. Also if you shot in overcast lighting would improve this. The unopened flower coming in from the left tends to take a way from the rest of the flowers. The top should be cropped off.
Positives: 2nd flower up is sharp, you are shooting close-ups, experimenting, learning.
It's not easy getting your image critiqued here, but I commend your desire to learn. Go out and shot some more and let us see the results.
Yay! Thanks so much for the critiques. I don't think I'll be shooting flowers when the sun is direct anymore, I can see how the lighting makes it appear weird. Thanks again, I'm probably going to think about all these things more for all my pictures now.
Janna,
For the wedding photography in particular, I am comfortable with 10mm-22mm lens because of groups and confined spaces and it also costs around $800.
For your question in particular, I used TAMRON and SIGMA, found SIGMA slightly better.…
