I use both Photoshop CS3 (on my desktop and my 17" Toshiba notebook computers) and the free Digital Professional Pro (supplied with my Canon DSLR camera) on a small (in both size and capability) notebook computer which I use when I am traveling by air. I don't do any editing when traveling, preferring to spend most of my time shooting. However, I use the DPP to open my RAW images, give them a cursory inspection (to detect any glaring equipment or operator errors), batch title them and copy the to duplicate 500GB Western Digital Passport external hard drives.
My local Calumet Photo store has a Capture One 5.0 seminar scheduled for January which costs $50 and provides a copy of the standard version of capture One 5.0 at no extra cost. I have enrolled for that seminar.
Capture One 5.0 looks interesting. Can anyone who has used both DPP and Capture One 5.0 compare the two programs?
I don't think the version of Capture One I tried was version 5, but I liked it more than DPP. I've read many articles claiming it does a better job with raw file noise than anything else. I use Adobe Camera Raw, and I couldn't see any difference, so I stuck with what I already knew.
Choosing processing software is a lot like choosing developing chems. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. With either it's probably more beneficial to pick one, and stick with it learning to use it fully, than it is to worry about which software/developer works best for someone else.
I was at this seminar. This pgrm works well with camras that let cap 1 into thier camera software. Canon won't let them in. The cap 1 5.0 works with limits on all camras like adobe lightroom beta 3.0 which is free. Cap 1 has presets you set so your photos are adjusted for color, ISO, contrast, ect. once mated with the big cams haus, mamya which work hand in hand with this software so your haus or mamya won't take a bad pic. I belive the upgrade from 5.0 to the next level will cost a lot more not to have all the bells for my or your canon. They want to sell to the little cams because you don't see haus and mamya at those weddings these days. Elements will do the same job too if your using raw. Lightroom is adobe too. I am not a sales person just a hobbiest.
