I was reading in a book on CS3 that the use of a card reader is perferred when downloading pictures from your camara to computer. Is this due to concern about the transfer of viruses or is there another concern?

What do you think is it best to use a card reader?

The reason to use a card reader is to save your battery in your camera! Its easy to get a cheap card reader but saving the life of your battery is worth spending a small amount of money on a card reader. One note when using a card reader is to make sure you do not bend the pins when your enter in the card the cheaper the card reader the easier it is to bend the pins
The reason is to save your battery. Once you have cards that are several gigs it would take a long time to download via your camera and the wear on your battery just isn't worth it! My reader is a Dynex, I got it for the holiday couple years ago, it works well, but I think most of them do.
What do you think of Sandisk?
So far I haven't had a Sandisk card quit on me even after heavy use and extreme conditions.
