Hi Rhoel,
I have just seen your picture,
There are 2 or 3 things that are not good:
The first is that the model have the eyes closed, the light of the flash and the saturation are so much high, and the last things che hair that are so much black and seems to be the same of the mountain.
1) Is that pop-up flash, or a speedlight? If it is a speedlight, get it off the camera and diffuse it. If it is pop-up flash get a diffuser. If you are interested in more lighting techniques check out http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/
2) Dragging your shutter might help expose the background a bit more, although you don't want to blow out the sky.
3) Do you own a tripod?
was using a pop-up flash as i still dont have a speed light and a tripod yet...btw, does dragging the shutter mean decreasing the shutter speed. i shot this in P mode.... thanks so much for the tips bud......
Yes, dragging the shutter means decreasing the shutter speed.
Why it works: by decreasing the shutter speed (to say 1/15) the background will be more exposed, then when your flash fires it will expose the model. So you expose both. However, if you drag it too much (say 1/2 second) you will begin to get ghosting from camera shake. This is something you will need to experiment with to get the hang of. You'll need to use manual mode to do this.
Pop-up flash causes really harsh, flat light. To help with this you can get a pop-up diffuser. They are pretty inexpensive..around $20. This might be a good way to go until you can afford a speedlight. I would suggest either the Gary Fong Pop-Up Diffuser or the Professor Kobre Lightscoop.
I look forward to seeing more of your photos, keep up the good work.
i think her eyes seem closed or closed when she smiled. her hair is reall pitch black as she's asian...thanks so much for the comments. points well taken buddy......
Hi Rhoel,
I've only been taking photographs for the past year and i wouldn't have progressed without the comments of others, so here goes......
Positive aspects of the image are:
Beautiful model and cloud cover/color
Negative aspects of the image are:
Models eyes are closed
Shape of the legs, they look short and a little stumpy as they have been cut out.
The backdrop is too dark in color
Hope this helps and that you may have time to look at my work in the near future.
Have a good day and take care
thanks so much for your comments.......points well taken....in fact i appreciate all your comments....they sure will help me progress......btw, just began using my canon rebel xt last december.....
