I am wondering if I should be putting a copyright or my name on the photos? I see that almost all of the ones on here have something like that. If I should be doing that how is it done?

You can also use FSviewer that will allow you to put a frame around your image, watermark it and resize the image all in a batch process...oh and its free..its what I used on all the ones I uploaded to Flickr
It's a good idea and it does matter. For example over at Smugmug Dgrin forums I read about someone all the time finding their photo in some magazine or online site without permission - one that comes to mind http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=80509&highlight=magazine+... . 99% of the time the owner doesn't find out and this is what they are betting on.

The trick is find some happy medium between protecting your photo and not creating a huge distraction in your photo so that users get turned off.
Thanks guys for all your input. I have since started resizing and putting my name on all my pictures. although like many have said putting your pictures on the internet always has its risks.
I found a great site on flickr but go direct through flickr you have limitations to what you can do. Its called Picnik you can add frames, drop shadows, your name, logs, pretty much all you want. Depending on your computer it can be slow loading but i believe will worth the wait. I have and use PS3 but this is so easy and its free. I had a another flickr member tell me about it I loved her shadows she had on her shots and could not achieve same in PS. Hope this helps.

Hi!

Here's a link for a simple tutorial of how to add a watermark to your photos using Photoshop.

Once I've created a watermark for a portrait and landscape layout (after you follow the above tutorial), I save each as an individual file (ex. 'Watermark_portrait', and 'Watermark_landscape'). I then open a new photo (which I want to add the watermark to) as well as open the appropriate watermark file also in Photoshop. You'll have two images open in Photoshop: your photo to be watermarked and your save watermark image.

Maximize your watermark image file and make sure you have the 'Layers' window open (File, Window, Show Layers). It should appear on the right, and it will show as a text layer. Right click in the middle of the layer (not on the 'T', just to the right) and select 'Duplicate Layer'. A window will popup. In the drop down menu select the other image file you have open in Photoshop, the one you are wanting to add the watermark to. Click OK. You can then minimize your watermark image window to check out your newly watermarked photo! Save it and go to the next! When you're done and go to close Photoshop, you don't have to save the watermark layer if you already saved it previously.

I have more examples on my website jasonhernandezphotography.com

I hope this helps; if you have any questions, let me know!

Jason
Thanks Jason, I will try this.
