I started shooting in RAW last night and I went to upload the pictures to my computer and its not working. I believe I have to change format or something like that. I feel pretty stupid not knowing how to do this!! what is the easiest way to do this. I normally upload my pictures using picasa 3
You'll need to have the proper software to be able to view RAW images. Your camera manufacturer should be able you with what you need. Also Microsoft does have several plugins for MS viewer.
Thanks Murray. After I posted this I found out from my brother in law that Microsoft has software and also the software directly from canon. I never thought about the software from canon! but thanks again.
There are a lot of discussions concerning PPI(Pixels Per Inch) vs DPI(Dots Per Inch), DPI is used more in line of printing. Everything I provide to my clients is at 300 dpi, their requirement. 350 is a little much and do not believe that you will see any difference in the quality printing at 300 dpi.
Matt Spinelli use to have a DPI to PPI converter, not sure if it is still available.
I tried to upload my pictures as usual with Picasa 3 last night and they would not upload. Is there something special I have to do? I have not tried the manufactures software or Microsoft as my brother in law suggested. I will let you all know how it goes when I get a chance to sit down and try it out. I do have the digital photography missing manual book and I know it has a chapter on picasa while the kids are busy I am going to skip to that chapter and see what it says. Hopefully I will have some pictures to upload next time I sign in.
Denise - I'm not sure, but I don't think Picasa3 supports RAW, This is from CNET; The program works with JPEG, GIF, BMP, PSD, and movie files and is compatible with most digital cameras. Someone who uses may be able to tell you otherwise.
Thanks again Murray. I did get my pictures off my camera and is now in the process of editing them and saving them jpeg. I downloaded the software that came with my canon. Its alot of work editing RAW pictures but I think it will be fun once I learn it all. I think its a bit overwhelming this first time because I have so many photos. I don't think I fully realized what i was getting my self into when I did this!! I think of it as a learning experience.
Alan:
I am not sure if you figured it out yet but I was on the phone with my brother in law for about and hour and he walked me through it. I downloaded my software that came with my camera and after that it was a cinch! I am in the process of editing the photos and saving them to jpeg. Let me know if you need help and I will try my best to help you out as I am new to all of this too.
Alan after you are done doing your editing are you converting and saving your files? I did finish and edit one picture so far. I clicked convert and save and had no problem emailing. although it was only one picture. Here is a link to the tutorial site for the DPP software. I hope this helps you. http://www.usa.canon.com/content/dpp2/index.html
I am a newbie to so I know what its like to want to get to know everything. There is so much to learn. I am hoping to learn my camera like the back of my hand but there is so much to know. I am learning slowly but I am! This site has been a great help and I have been in touch with some great people helping me along the way.

I saw that you were shooting in RAW and converting to JPG...You should save to TIF it is a lossless(I know it isn't a real word but it was the one that came to my head) way of saving your image...JPGs always have some compression so you loose some quality. Save it in TIF and you save the best your image could be.
