Saw the link on Nikon chat area, don't have it right now, but Nikon is producing the D300s as their replacement. If your purchase is a D300S go for it! That one has Hdef video.
The D300 is on its last production leg though.

I have read somewhere that the D300 is not being stopped yet. there is a couple of years before it is stopped. Only Nikon can really answer this question
Might be true!
because almost all of the features in D300 is in the Nikon D90 the only difference I think is the Body and that the D90 has a HD Video capt.
and I think also to give way to their new model like you've said The nikon D300s which I think for me is a superb DSLR!
