I have been taking commercial photographs in real estate for over 15 years. However, I am taking a digital photography class currently therefore I am also still learning the rules. Pictures number 1 and 2 seem to fit the "rule of thirds" and also the "rule of diagonals". I also believe if you reversed #2 so it is going the other direction it would be more pleasing to the eye (at least for Americans because most of us read left to right).
thanks Gena for the suggestion. can I ask more about the meaning of "Rule of thirds" and "rule of diagonals"
rule of thirds is saying that if you had lines going horizontal in thirds. then you should shoot 2/3 sky or 1/3 sky.. along the lines of that. sorry for the crude definition.
thanks Jonathan, do you mean that i should include the sky on my photo and does "rule of thirds" is related to "framing"?
not really related to framing but if you were taking a scenic shot, include the sky.

i read on the rule of diagonals. it says something like if you had a fence or some sort that was not completely horizontal, you would try to make the angle so it crosses top left to bottom right of the frame, or top right to bottom left. hopefully that makes sense.

here is a site that i read some tips on, the link is to some composition tips and rules. I hope this helps
