The Photography Network - PictureSocial

Some of you may have noticed, some may not, but when people post pictures now.. there is a little "Like" button. It is not a "Love" button or a "Let me have your baby" button. Just "Like". No purchase is necessary, No long term commitment, and you don't have to leave a comment. See a good photo.. just click "like". You could make somebody's whole day.

I don't live on PictureSocial, but as a member, I try to visit a couple of times a day. I will usually look at about the last 10 pages of photos that were recently posted... and "like" the ones I like, comment on some that I can and that I really like.

Sorry, I have not been here much lately.. so my "Likes" have been a bit sparse. I am going to try to find at least 20 photos to "Like" before the end of the day.. Will one of them be yours?! (Fun hobby, fun site, great photography! What do YOU like?)

Totally agreed on this point. Its a sharing site, so by definition a little give and take is expected... we share our photos, so a little credit to others who share is a very good thing... when deserved.

I "like" to explore around and find very good or great shots but feel there should be a "try again" or a "you really over process this one" button too.  There are a lot of poor pictures here as well.

Another thing about Picture Social (whoever runs this) is they don't seem to listen to the users.  I told them to make the slide player work for more than 100 pictures but they don't.  They should only allow uploading of about 10 pics per day but they set that at 200.  I think the programmers died and we just don't know it.

All the more reason to reward good work. But you are so right, we should instantly rip the soul from anybody who posts less than a technically perfect photo. This is PICTUREsocial, not pictureSOCIAL.. we really need to get rid of all the rubbish before the pure joy of learning and sharing take hold!

There are dozens of posts about restricting uploads, the site owners have made it clear that this is a social site and they have no desire to restrict use that way. I have found many other ways to enjoy the site.. the recent photo list is not all that important to me.

The site exists on the ning network and is subject to their limitations.

Papa Rotzzi, I appreciated your comment. The other day I read this blog that was so very encouraging to me. I want to share it here and I'd love your thoughts. http://www.pixelatedimage.com/blog/2009/11/just/

"It is easy for me to remain humble, I am not that good!" - Papa Rotzzi

Janna, yes.. I agree totally.

I am a photographer.. not because I have a good camera or a good sales pitch. I am a photographer for the purely selfish reason that I love the feeling I get when I capture what I set out to capture. I derive great joy from when one of my photos makes somebody smile. It melts my heart and brings lifts my soul when a client see themselves in one of my photos and says "wow, I'm not ugly!"

If I never got paid, I would do this anyway.

Seems to me that the purpose of a social networking site is to be social and network. This should include encouragement.. instruction.. information.. experience.. respect. And these things can and should occur at all levels.
