Getting into Photography as Both a Hobby and Business
Hi, Everyone,
Here's my question. I want to really get into photography as both a hobby and as a business. I want to take landscape shots, portraits, family portraits, and do some professional photo shoots. I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS/1000D, and also looking to get either the EOS Rebel T2i or the T1i, EOS Rebel XS1. Does anyone have any good advice or tips they can offer me that will be useful in my quest?
The economy and family medical issues have moved me to take a second look at my career options and between photography, technology, and becoming an events planner, these are where my interests are being driven. So any information anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.

well i was the same as you and i started going to all the events in brighton and sending my shots in to the papper and then giveing out cards at the event and after a bit the papper would call me up and aske me to go and show them my work and that was that and now i cover most of the events in brighton and do my own stuff as well so i would say go to your news papper near you and try and get in to show them your work

Hey, that's a killer idea! I like it. We have several newspapers here in Los Angeles with Los Angeles Times being one of the biggest. I'll look into that. Thanks for the idea.

find your own niche in the market unique to you, set a small market stand to sell some of your work from there,
and grow. goodluck

Hey, I'm new on here, and kind of in the same boat you appear to be in. I have loved photography for years, but just within the last 6 months, or so, I'm starting to get into it professionally. I would suggest getting you a facebook page specifically for your photography business. Get friends to "like" it and go from there. I've already gotten several photoshoots from just that. Also, use word of mouth. Take pictures for family and friends and tell them to spread the word. Pretty soon, you will be getting calls left and right. From my facebook page, I was asked about an engagement photoshoot from New York...and I'm in Kentucky! LOL! Also, start you a blog just for photography.
