I am new here as well but hi !...hope you have an awesome 2009. Where are you from?
I am not a pro photographer but certainly have a very keen interest. I often use my photo's in art projects. I am trying to find out if one is allowed to use any of these photo's....do they have copy rights and all that stuff?

Well, what you're talking about is creating a "derivative work", which unfortunately cannot be done according to US and international copyright laws. It never hurts to ask, though. If you like someone's photo,ask them if they wouldn't mind if you used it.

To completely stay out of legal trouble, the process for using a photo is called licensing. Just asking first is always the polite way, though. And you'd be surprised just how far good manners will get you.
