I've watched quite a few videos from the internet... and surprise to see that this Yongnuo 560 speedlite is very much comparable to Canon's 580EX... I'm very surprised with its price only costing $85. I mean, yes. It's China made, it does not have an automatic control but, I've seen it. It's sturdy, quite well built actually... i'm impressed! It also has a bounce card and a diffuser, you could tilt it 90 degrees to the left and 180 degrees to the right. It has a zoom... it has a slave too! It's compatible through Canon's TTL (but not all)

It's a brilliant piece of Chinese technology!

Though I haven't entirely experimented on this flashgun, does anyone know if this flash helps with the camera's focus? What I mean is, does it have this pre-flash to calculate the distance from the lens to the object via infrared?

Would you consider buying this?

Never seen it.  It looks amazing.  It also has a lot of buttons for no automatic control.  If it has no automatic control it probably does not have focus help.  If I were just starting out and money was tight I would consider it.  At this point, having the Canon flash is pretty much guaranteed compatible with the Canon body so while it may be more expensive, it is safe and easy.
Yeah, I agree it is amazing. To be honest, im really quite tight at budget and i'm kinda considering this... I was considering the other one and that's the Yongnuo 467... I think it's more expensive than the YN560 because it's automatic and also has an AF assist (which only uses 1 LED light)

I own a YN 560.  It is not Ettl compatible so  I wouldn't use it for 'automatic' shooting.  My use of this flash is mounted to a light stand with an shoot through or reflector umbrella.  If you are looking for ETTL compatible flashes try Vivitar, Sigma, Bowens and others.

To tell you the truth I would not use it attached to my camera.  Trying to get the exposure right when there are so many other flashes out there that offer ETTL is a better bet.  BTW I also own a 430EXII.  I have had the misfortune to drop it not once but twice.  Once on ceramic tile at a shoot and once in the driveway(concrete).  It still looks and works like a charm.  Canon makes a great product.  If you go the Canon USA site you can find refurbished flashes for about 20% off retail. Mostly factory refurbished are short use and returned to the store and mostly repacking is all that is needed.  I almost returned my 430 for a 580.  If I had the buyer of the refurbished flash would have gotten a good flash.

Thanks for replying! It was a good thing I haven't bought this YN560... because I was suppose to use it mounted on my camera..

Do you know any good yongnuo flash (im quite tight on my budget) with an E-TTL that's compatible to my Canon 400D?

seeing that you are looking for your first flash I would consider buying someplace where you can get assistance from a store and have the ability to return the item if it does not live up to your expectations.  Sigma makes a good flash, a bit more money. If your YN doesn't work out your stuck with it.  Even if an ebay seller says they'll take returns it is a very expensive and time consuming ordeal to return a product.  If your on a tight budget many stores have credit cards that give you 3 months to pay w/o interest.  Find a means to fund your purchase and possibly save yourself a big headache.  Once you have your main flash purchased you can try out the different things out there.

Actually I have a flash... but it's really quite an old one. A sunpak bz 260 (released sometime in the 80's) and i'm still using it. I'm still quite happy with it but i'm just looking for a much modern flash. :)

I haven't seen any sigma flashes here in my country, by the way, I live here in the Philippines. But thanks for the info :) i'll keep that in mind.

Me again:

I just was on Ebay and Cameta camera has a Sunpak ettl flash for 59.99 + shipping.  I don't know your location but if you are in north america take a look and then decide for yourself.  You'll get it quicker too.  Check out the return policy!

Oh, that's nice! i'll have a look on that too. I'll also check if my local dealer has that...
