I have just found this site! I am so excited!! I have just began photography about 2 months ago. I really enjoy and love it; but I am having some issues with my photo sessions. I was told that I would be trained and taught what I needed to know for the basic fundamentals of photography. Now I am going on photo sessions and I just cross my fingers and pray that the pictures turn out. I'm in need of some help and advice.
Best piece of advise I got from a photographer, many years ago, was:
Is it framed correctly and as you press the shutter button, breath out.
I can honestly say I do not think I have carried this out 100% but at least I try.
Go out there and take shots, load them onto the computer and be very self critical.
Hello Shelly,
If you want to get up to speed quickly, I recommend taking a couple of online classes. I have taken a few classes at www.betterphoto.com and have loved everyone of them. I would recommend taking a proper exposure class if you are new because exposure and knowing how to control your camera to capture it is the most important aspect of photography IMO. Bryan Petersons book Understanding Exposure is very good but if you are like me, having to do classroom assignments (doing instead of reading) makes a big difference for my growth and learning. At Better Photo, I would take a techniques (Exposure / Composition) and a Photoshop class at the same time. I have also taken lighting, night shooting, Corel Painter and more Photoshop classes. My learning curve was fast and I obtained a great understanding of all the varied aspects of photography. I will be taking an Infrared Photography course at Better Photo in the next month or 2.
Something to consider,
Carlton
Welcome,
Personally I learnt by reading, doing making mistakes and re doing !
That was 20 years ago now days there is so much help and courses available on the internet that you are spoiled for choice.Look at New York Institute Of Photography they did a great course and helped me learn the fundamentals.
