The Photography Network - PictureSocial

Hi, I'm Matt, a professional photographer located in Lawrence, KS. Weddings and portraits are my bread and butter, but I manage to get the occasional commercial job and sometimes sell my personal work. I've always been interested in the visual arts, and of course played with cameras occasionally when young, but I didn't really get into photography until my mid-20's when I took my first college photography class on a whim. Since then it's been an obsession.

I spent the first 10+ years concentrating mostly on BW film and the traditional darkroom. I was one of those hardcore, death B4 digital, film geeks who claimed digital would never be as good as film. As the digital revolution gained momentum I very reluctantly purchased my first DSLR, a Canon 20D, and fell in love with it almost over night. :) I shot both for a while, but this July will be the 2nd anniversary of the last film exposure I made. I still love messing with classic and vintage camera gear, but it almost all situations I'd rather be shooting and processing digitally.

I know a lot about the gear and processes, but truly believe good photography is mostly about the photographer, the subject, and the light.

Welcome Matt,

Nice Bio. I also spent a good deal of time in the darkroom. I even graduated from Technical School in photography before I finally wound up in the Air Force.

I now shoot almost exclusively digital. Though I still think film photography is better at a few things over digital. But digital gives post-processing much more options.

Mike :)
