As some of you may know I am still learning photography I am not professional, YET, haha but I know how to take a good picture....
Any ways I need your help...
As a photographer how much would you charge?
Here is the situation. A friend of mine has a business and she needs pictures of 15 different girls. Each girl needs four 4x6 pictures to use in a pamphlet for her business. I wanted to know what a good rate to charge for my time, my pictures, printing.editing the prints, giving a disk with all the pictures, and traveling (not too far) to her home to to the pictures.... If anybody could help me and give me some advice and how much to charge.. I was thinking $40 per girl which would equal $600 minus probably $130 for the prints.. So I would be making a profit of $440.... I don't know if that is too low..
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!
I just am really confused and would like to know what I could do and use this knowledge for the future...

Thank you

Amy, experienced pro's do this often. $200 an hour OR 300 % mark up. Hope this helps :)

Since it is a group shoot I think you are fine with your pricing...If each girl came to you separate, then I would charge much more. Head shot for one should be in the range $200-$300 depending if I have to travel or they come to me.

BTW How many images are you giving them? If you are giving them a disk, I wouldn't print anything. Save yourself the time money and head ache.

Hi Amy
This is always a difficult dilema as to what you do about charging friends. I would work out what you would charge anyone else. Decide how long it is going to take you and what you think you are worth on an hourly basis.

Do not sell yourself short or let anyone take advantage of your kind nature or your frienship. This is for a business so she should expect to pay business rates. You may say to her that it is going to cost you $100 per model but you will chuck in the travel and prints (your price on prints looks expensive) or something along those lines. Remember she may come back to you in the future expecting the same great deal and then you will start to resent it.

If it helps I think you are too cheap but the final price has to be what you think you are worth. I hope this helps.

I normally charge not what I would tell you now, but with the economy you want to be fair so I would charge $30 per girl and $10 per each photo you'll work on. Now if you don't consider yourseld pro enough you can offer to do the job for $20 a photo you give to the client. ;)
Hope it helps...
