I find a telephoto lens a lot more useful than a macro lens. I tend to shoot people most often. I would highly recommend building up your lenses before upgrade your body. If you have a certain body in mind that you want in the future, (for me its a full-frame), make sure that the lenses you purchase can be used on your future body. No use investing in a lens that you'll have to ditch when you buy a new body.
What is it in a camera that you want that the D60 is not doing?

Example: When I upgraded my D50 I wanted faster frame rate, wireless flash commander mode, better controls, and the ability to print larger.
printing larger is good :)

i think i just need more versatile lens's collection i cant say i can do a great deal with the stock lens!
thanks for all the great adivce...i am set now on keeping the camera but im definetly on the look out for a new selection of lenses...if anyone has anything for the d60 for sale pm me...i might be interested :)
It's kind of funny that there's all this gear talk, yet as far as I can see, no discussion of subject matter, photographer's style, shooting situation, etc... :) I need to know what the job is before I can decide what the proper tools are.

What subjects do you like to photograph?

How do you like to photograph them?

What lighting do you use?

What are some of the limitations you are encountering with your current lens?
A keep the camera. Lens choices. If money is no object get the 70-200mm f2.8 VR for $2000. Spectacular lens the lens you need for sports in poor light. Personally for fast long telephoto I got the 80-200mm AF-D, but that won't autofocus on a D60, its only $900. Now lets get real.

The next lens to add is the 55-200mm f4-5.6 VRII DX for $225-250. Its a good sharp lens and pretty light and compact for a 300mm equivalent telephoto zoom. (Remember your D60 has a 1.5 x crop factor)

If you want a very long telephoto get the Nikon 70-300mm f4-5.6 VRII instead. It has better glass and is better built and longer (450mm equivalent) but it's also $550 and noticeably bigger and heavier. You will know this has been on your shoulder at the end of a ballgame.

The third lens to get is the new Nikon 35mm f1.8 G. It is only $199.95 and an excellent fast normal prime (remember it is 52.5mm equivalent.)

After that it comes down to what you shoot.

Superwide angle - get the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 ($650) if you can afford it, but the f4-5.6 at $480 or the Tokina 12-24 f4 for $400 are good choices.

Macro Get the Nikon 60mm AF-S f2.8 for $490 or the Sigma 180 f3.5 at $700 are probably the best choices. (Most macro lenses don't have built in motors - these two do).

We already talked about telephoto.

"Thanks John !..the crispness surprised me somewhat as i had used a 13mm close-up/macro extension tube attached to a 50mm Prime, the shot didn't need any sharpening in PS either. Oh, and no not yet, though i keep trying.. lol !!.."
