Hi All,
I'm using a Nikon D300  A 20" Imac, 2008 intel model, Aperture, PS CS4 (all set to adobe1998) and an epson R800 printer (with genuine epson inks). The screen is calibrated with an xrite eye one.
I've had excellent print results in the past and I just cannot understand why all my prints are darker and more saturated than they show on screen.
Any thoughts?
I've attached an image  which looks fine on my screen but terrible in print (darker and redder)
I thought the point of calibration devices was to avoid these issues!

Is the only change calibration?

I find prints are always darker than slides, or a monitor.

If you are using calibration equipment, you should calibrate the printer too?
Sounds like a printer calibration issue and not a monitor issue. Last time the nozzles where cleaned? Try taking a file to a local film place. have them print an 8x10 and see what you get.
Also make sure the settings when you print are set to Photoshop to control the print and not the printer software. I have had this a few times and I have no idea how the setting gets altered.
Try proofing your colors. Also see if your printer has any color management turned on...if so turn it off, because it will mess with the colors. The same thing should apply when you take it in to be printed, tell them you do not want any color management applied to your images. Otherwise it is completely up to their interpretation or the software's interpretation as to what you want. Just like you would not shoot in auto, why would you print in auto.
Your colour space is sub optimal for your printer, which is sRGB. 'Convert to profile' for sRGB and then give it another shot.

If it's still a problem look at your colour settings and try Colour Management off. It should work just fine using standard print settings... that's why they make them that way.
One thing I did is make sure that the color management is controlled by the printer and not the software.
Click on File>>Print>>Color Handling box>drop down box and click on "Printer Manages Color." make sure it doesn't say"Photoshop manages color." Colors are right on.

Also I downloaded the color profile for the paper I'm using for my Printer. I use the Canon Pro9000. I print on Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl Paper.

"Thanks John !..the crispness surprised me somewhat as i had used a 13mm close-up/macro extension tube attached to a 50mm Prime, the shot didn't need any sharpening in PS either. Oh, and no not yet, though i keep trying.. lol !!.."
