the one that you have now ( D80 ) is the best camera to take pictures and i'm sure there's plenty of places to rent or buy equiptment from your area. you can do a google search or search on the yellow pages.
Excellent photos of what? How do you define "excellent"?

Many photos that have won major prizes or great accolades have been taken with just a simple camera and were the result of understanding the equipment, conditions and composition while being at the right place at the right time.

As the others have said, the Nikon D80 is capable. What you need is practice, practice, and more practice. Possibly also, a little study. There are lots of good books and there is a wealth of information on the Internet.
Slow down newbie...what's the point for one to get a Nikon D3X if one has yet to understand and possess the knowledge of basic photography?
NIKON D80?? its more than enough to capture a great photo, u just need to polish your skill IMHO :)
There is no such thing as 'the best camera'. The majority of SLR's fundamentally have the same technology or can do the same. Its about knowing how to use it, but most importantly how to capture what your shooting. Loads of people are going to tell you different things about different SLR's. At the end of the day you need to be realistic about your budget and what it is your wanting it to do. Also consider the additional costs in the future for lenses etc. Sorry if this doesnt help. Good Luck
You already have a superb camera which is capable of producing an excellent image, equipment can be found pretty much everywhere online,
http://www.adorama.com
http://www.bhphotovideo.com
and for Miami i suggest you google "miami photography stores" strangely enough!
Two really good sites among many others for learning the art of photography are http://www.dpreview.com
where there is a helpful beginner section, and also
http://www.nikoncafe.com
where you can learn learn just how good your D80 really is,
regards,
Gary..
Any camera can take great photographs. IMHO the simpler the better. The questions is; can you?
Since you're just starting out it's best to get familiar with the camera you already have. Learn to shoot in manual if you're not doing so already. To me shooting in manual says a lot! Once you've developed an understanding of fundamentals of basic photography is just a start, trust me. Having the most recent or the most expensive camera on the market does not make you a better photographer. Neither does depending on photoshop! There are plenty of folks out there with expensive cameras taking photos and their photos. Well, I'm pretty confident my 12 month old could have done a better job!

It's not the camera it's the eye and technique!
