This is my husbands ashtray. I shot a few photos of it and took them into photoshop to edit. I turned them into a high contrast black and white.

Looks good. To my (untrained) eyes it might be a little much though. Considering the subject matter, I'm curious to see what the comparison would be to a B&W version without the contrast adjustment.
Here is one. This just black and white, no contrast.

Well, then that is the one I will use. lol

One of my brothers friends asked me if he could buy this shot from me. This was a test shot in all actuallity. I never intended to sell this. I do not smoke. My husband does, but I hate it.
Oh my the carnage those poor cigarettes. Not offensive.
Second choice is better...is your black and white in gray scale or a color image with the saturation taken out?...The latter will allow you to add more contrast without washing grays into each other.
lol

It is the latter. I have photoshop elements 2.0 and 6.0. I edited this one on 2.0
i love the high contrast in the first one. give the photo a more dramatic feel. The 2nd one feels kinda boring

"Thanks John !..the crispness surprised me somewhat as i had used a 13mm close-up/macro extension tube attached to a 50mm Prime, the shot didn't need any sharpening in PS either. Oh, and no not yet, though i keep trying.. lol !!.."
