I'm just wondering if anyone has any information about mounting images with epoxy resin. I have seen this technique, or something similar, in studios and really like the laminated smooth look. To me, it makes it more of a complete art piece than a frame with an image and a pane of glass. The clear epoxy finishes I have seen were very clean and perfect in quality and others more seedy and process oriented - added scratches or paint marks on top of clear finish. I have read about diasec and wish I could afford it, this is more of an attempt to make it start to finish (image, frame, clear coat) and be able to afford it. So, if anyone has used epoxy resin or any other clear coat finishing technique please let me know!!!
I use a lacquer finish that's designed for the photographic process so that it won't yellow over time. I have a friend that has experimented with several different varnishes and other finishes. The unknown factor is the moisture content of the finish materials. If the moisture content is very high it will cause a color shift that may be permanent. The other factor will be the acid content of the finish. If it has an acid content it could, probably will, ruin the dyes that form the image. Another factor will be the UV blocking capabilities of the material. You obviously want to have it in your finish if possible. Most photographic lacquers have a UV filter built in.
