Need a critique

hi .. I took this photo about 5.30am in a lovely scenic spot in New Zealand. And while I like it, there's something missing or wrong with it and I can't quite put my finger on it. I know there's a bit of extreme lightness on the horizon at the right, and the shadow is a bit dark from the side of the hut .. but they seem to balance each other so might not be the cause. Any ideas on what is niggling at me. Composition???

hmmm. What do you think... I still think for me, it's lacking some drama. I am really grateful for the hard work everyone has done. This is better technically but I think its missing the 'heart' and that's because I never captured in the first place. It may be better taken from this and turned into black and white. I will definitely be back to the crique group. You have all been most helpful.

I see you have a lot of help here, but everyone missed the boat - so to speak. What's needed is the Marlboro Man, remember him? Have him sitting on a horse, rifle across his arms, hat back on his head, and a bikini clad girly-girl sitting behind him. Just kidding around. Basicly you were there at the wrong time of day, you needed sunlight on the front preferably at an acute angle so as to show texture and details.

haha .. too true. But there's NEVER a Marlborough Man around when you need him! Yes you're right about the light. I got up at 4am and it took me longer than I thought to get to this place so the sun was already up and rising at breakneck speed. Or at least it felt like it. This is a place I have wanted to photograph for several years after last being in the area, but unable to get deep into the mountains because I didn't have a 4WD truck. Now I do. So no river or steep ridge is going to stop me getting where I want to go these days. I just have to get out of bed earlier and earlier! Cheers.
