Does anyone know of any books or anything I can purchase to read up on basic fundamentals? I love it, but I want to get better. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated!

One book I recommend everyone interested in photography is:

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. ISBN 0-8174-6300-3
I know he has released another book and I do not know what it is called or what it is about.

Fred
thank you so much!
Also check out " Digital SLR Cameras & Photography For Dummies" I recently borrowed it from my nephew when I decided to get back into photography and convert to digital. It's actually quite good. You should be able to find it at most any camera store.
im putting it on my list! thanks
The most in-depth and authoritative set of books on photography, although a bit dated, is "The Camera", "The Negative" and "The Print" by Ansel Adams. In addition to being a truly great photographer he was also a great teacher. He wrote before the dawn of the digital age, but his teachings about photography are timeless. I had to read "The Negative" (which included the famous chapter on The Zone System) twice to get a more fullsome understanding but it was worth it. I believe these books are still available.
im going to start searching for them. thanks for the info
one book that helped me a lot and was easy to understood is Portrait and Candid Photography: Photo Workshop by erin manning. also watch this video on youtube it is also from erin manning the writer of that book "Erin Manning's Top 10 Dos and Don'ts for Great Portraits" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwoB-cDX9wo
in this page you can find good tips and tutorials for free http://digital-photography-school.com
i hope this information may help you.

It's wonderful, and FREE!
Check out the photography books selection in amazon.com. There are many, including the Bryan Peterson series. His Understanding Exposure, which Fred mentioned, is a must have in any photographer's book selection. Amazon has a rating for
each of their photo books. Another author which has gotten good ratings on his books is Scott Kelby. He has numerous publications. If your budget is limited, check out your local library. Good Luck!
Fred mentioned Brian 'Moose' Peterson, which is a good starting point for Landscape and outdoor in general.
A really good introductory series (without all the technical mumbo jumbo) is Scott Kelby's Digital Photography (1,2,3)
I have been a fan of his for about 5 years now. Even cooler - Scott and Brian are really good friends.

"Photography" by London and Upton (and assorted other authors from version to version) is commonly used as the text for Photo 101. All my copies are pre-digital, but I assume more recent additions include digital photography.

I'm a huge fan of the AA trilogy, but I found Henry Horenstein's books easier to read and understand the first time through: "Black & White Photography", "Beyond Basic Photography", and "Color Photography". All 6 books are common and cheap at used book stores. These books don't cover any digital.

"The Moment It Clicks" by Joe McNally. Stories, advice, and tips from a very successful, contemporary, pro photog.

"Light, Science & Magic" and www.strobist.com for lighting

thanks everyone for all of the helpful info. im doing the photo walk in my city today. hopefully i can get some good hands on experience.
