I am in the process of buying a new lap top for the purpose of photo editing. I have only owned PC's and am looking for some opinions on this. Is the cost of a Mac worth it?? I would like to get into some more advanced photoshop editing...
Thanks for any help on this subject!!
Since 1996 I owned a MAC. I am now on my third MAC. My boys have a HP & an old DELL. I use Photoshop CS3 & Illustrator. The graphics & photos on a MAC are far better than a PC. You can get better graphics on a PC but you will have to pay big bucks for it. I've tried using an old Photoshop on my son's PC & I get frustrated because I am used to a MAC. The photos show up brighter, sharper & more colorful & vivid. You need to go into a MAC store & try them out. They are very helpful & will not push any machine you don't need. I purchased my IMAC in October & I love it. My daughter has my old MAC plus her MAC laptop.
My sister has 2 imacs & 2 Laptops.
All the viruses out there are geared to PCs. I never got a virus. Also my new MAC doesn't freeze.
I totally recommend it.......& YES, it is worth it!
Hope this helps~
I need to add one more thing. Ü I know plenty of people who have used both types of computers. Once you get used to a MAC you will not go back...to a PC. I believe it's an easier system to work with.
Like I said, visit an APPLE Store & try them out.
Also, they offer group classes for a year(free with a computer purchase), an hour a week to help you learn programs that come with your computer. OR you pay them an addition $100 & you get a full year of one on one, one hour a week class on anything you want to learn with any program( I think) You would have to ask them about that. I never took advantage of that, because I know the system. They also have APPLE STORE tutorials on their website.
So they do make it easy to learn the MAC.
As you probably already know the system is in the monitor.
So if you see the 24 inch monitor for about 2199, that is the whole system.
There is no tower, just a keyboard & mouse.
I use Photoshop, but I do have iphoto, just never had to use it. I've been using Photoshop since 2001. It's excellent but pricey. You can purchase Photoshop Elements & download Camera Raw & get the same results at an affordable price. Or if you are in education, a teacher or a student you can get the educational version of photoshop for a big discount.
Also with the MAC, they give discounts if you are a volunteer fireman, or a teacher, student...at least they did when I was purchasing mine.
I went with the 3.06 GHz Intel Core Processor & I work with both Illustrator & Photoshop, open, & it works great. I cannot stress enough about trying out the MACs , not sure where you can try out PCs, but it is a big investment. Spend time & don't rush into anything.
Do you know anyone else that has a MAC & also a PC?
I went to the new Apple store at the local mall and looked. I did not buy. I am used to PC's and don't see the value in Apple. I did, however, get my PC a 24 inch wide screen Samsung monitor which I really enjoy. It was on sale at Future Shop for $230. The monitor I saw in the Apple store that I liked was $2,000. I doubt it was that much better.
I do agree with Marie's advice though, go to the store yourself, spend a couple of hours playing with the machines and make your mind up for yourself.
With Apple's change to Intel processors, you can run Windows on the hardware so if you don't like the "Appleness" you can keep the hardware and run Windows.
