Photography and Journaling: another way of shifting perspective in life

I enjoy journaling when inspired by something I see or read. Writings by Henri Nouwen, Elton Trueblood, Carlo Carretto, Harrry Fosdick, Oswald Chambers and Dietrich Bonhoeffer (to name a few) set my pen in motion. Sites and scenes in nature created by God cause me to pause, study, concentrate on details of the moment and "write" a reflection by a digital capture of that moment. Another great writer and photographer said it best, "My major motivation for taking up photography was to learn to change perspectives as practice for shifting from my perspective to God's" (Susan W. N. Ruach, Journeying Through the Days, 2006). Though I point and shoot with the camera, it is God who aims and imprints the creation before us on our minds; we choose to accept or reject it. I use the gift of photography as a form of prayer, a means of drawing closer to God. Though God's creation is infinite, my mind is not and the frame of a camera selects only that segment that I can handle at the moment. So, each photograph is a new discovery and understanding of God. He gives me only as much as I can handle at a time... and that is what makes photography journaling to me

Beautifully written.

Linda, your words were like sweet perfume to my soul! I completely understand what you're saying about looking at and photographing the world from a place of worship, really. I completely understand and now I am going to go take a look at your photos! Thanks for inspiring me to continue to pray that God would open my eyes and help me to see clearly through my camera lens!

Blessings,

Janna
