Many photographers says that those filters works differently but there still a question of how much is the difference between them. Recently I bought a circular polarizer make: Massa which disappointed me for the terrible results in the photography taken. It brought a kind of rainbow in the picture and even turning it on both directions it does not make any difference. I just quit using it.
By the other hand I have a linear polarizer by Canon which works great and give me a satisfactory results bringing wonderfull effects to my shots.
I am going to buy a new circular polarizer but first I want to hear from the members on this forum about the real difference between those filters when used on a Canon DSLR Rebel XT
The difference between linear and circular polarizers is that auto focus systems may have problems operating accurately through a linear polarizer. Circular polarizers are for AF cameras. You should notice no difference in image quality between a lin pol or circ pol from the same manufacturer and of the same quality level. I think what you experienced is the difference between an average quality filter and a low quality filter.
