Hey guys! I am pretty new at photography but probably want to pursue it in college. I have a Canon Rebel T1i and know that EF 50mm 1.4 lens will fit on my camera. Is this a good lens for the money? I have read numerous reviews and am confused!! So...what do you think?

There are 2 types of lens. Canon EF 50mm prime.1.8 mark 11 which is about $100.

Then there is Canon 50mm EF USM 50mm 1.4 which abuot $400.

They say the 50mm  prime 1.8 for $100 is a good bang for the buck because they produce decent image quality and you cant go wrong for $100.You should always have a good combination of lenses . One zoom lens , One prime lens and of course a macro for thos close up shots.

Canon makes 50 mm in f/1.8, f/1.4 and f/1.2.

Amusing video here:  http://www.digitalrev.com/article/battle-of-the-fast-50mm/NzIzMA_A_A

I have a T2i, and 50 mm f/1.8, and 24 mm f/1.4.  I don't use 50 mm that much.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

That video was great did you catch the fact that he has a Nikon Strap on that camera.  So is he reviewing the Nikon or Canon lenses.
