My advice to people looking for a professional printer is to always look locally first. It is much easier to create and maintain a professional relationship face to face. Of course one exception to this rule is for weddings where the considerations are entirely different.
Not sure if you ever looked into that Zenfolio account or not, but they use mpix for the prints that people would buy from your site...
Check out AdoramaPix.
Thanks for the advice everyone! I think i will order a few prints from mpix, h&h color lab and then find al ocal lab and order a few a well and see which i like best and which is the easiest to wrok with.. When it comes to papers , do you ahve aprefernce. Luster is best for portriats right?
I've been using Mpix for 6 years. They've been great for me. I calibrate my monitors about every two weeks, and check the "do not correct" box on the order. The prints (4x6 to 20x30) have always been quickly delivered looking just as I expect. Mpix is Miller's Photographic which has been serving professional photographers for decades.
Dumb question but how do you callibrate your monitor on a Imac? Im new to it so have no idea. ...Thanks for the advice!
I use PCs, but I assume a monitor calibration kit works on either. The kit contains a calibration device and software. You hang the device on your screen as directed, and run the software. I've been using an old X-rite calibrator I bought many years ago. If I were buying one today I'd probably go for the X-rite Color Munki. I know it seems expensive and not as exciting as a new lens or flash, but it's really been one of the best gear investments I've ever made. Getting prints back from the lab exactly as I want the first try is wonderful.

Mpix and most other labs usually do offer low tech/low cost ways to calibrate your monitor though. Just look on their websites. http://mpix.com/Kits.aspx/calibrationkit
Thank Matt!
WHCC. White House Custom Color. You send them 5 photo files and they send you back 5 8X10 for free just to make sure that what you see on your monitor matches what they print. when you order your prints you can see exactly what will be cropped. They dont charge for shipping, however minimum order is $13.00 and if you dont make that amount then they charge you any way! I learnded the hard way on that one! but no complaints! they rock!!
Awesome. I am going to try them as wll. Thank you!
I use Miller's Professional Imaging. I have tried the others mentioned here and I think Miller's has the most awesome customer service. I ordered prints and had them less than 24 hours later.
