The Photography Network - PictureSocial

Hi Everyone, New to this site and I was wondering if there is a way to protect my photos? I unfortunately uploaded a few large ones and there is no copyright stamped on them so they cannot be stolen.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks Charlotte

This is a great article on how to add a watermark to a digital photo

And links to instructions on how to add watermarks with other programs

Thank You Michael, I will check out those sites!
You don't need to put a copyright notice on your photo to have copyright. You got that when you took the picture. The notice just makes it easy for anyone who respects your copyright to contact you. If it is in your folder or on your web page, that is accomplished already.

You can always delete the large ones and post smaller ones if you are worried. Canon cameras can write your name into the EXIF data for you, Nikon probably also have that ability.
thanx for this info. ididnt know canon cameras could do this. ihave the s2 and just got the sx10 . i will have to learn how to get my name in them.
I don't know if the point and shoot cameras will but the software that comes with their SLR's lets you set it up in the camera.
In a digital world with the internet it's almost impossible to guarantee no unauthorized use. I've caught U.S. Governmant agencies and Universities using mine, and they should know the law. The best way is to load the smallest image possible so that if it's printed the image won't look good. The other way would be to watermark your images. You only can do what you can do. I don't think it's worth the time and effort to try to police your photographs; it takes too much emotional energy. In my instance I don't have the resources to follow up with these folks in court, which I could if I chose to. The best you can do is contact them when they commit a breach. If they're honorable they'll take care of it. If they aren't you can't do anything about it except smile and do it different the next time.
