I am very interested in following this discussion as it is the next lens i want to get. (The Nikon is just too expensive.)

Great lens, but lots of distortion at the wide end. I love the width it offers me, but you've got to be very careful with your horizons as well as the shapes of buildings. It just wonks them way out of shape. But if you know how to use it, there's nothing better for the price. I have the older version.
