If you do buy this camera suggest you look out for some of the 'classic' Minolta AF lenses, like the 28-135mm f/4-4.5 - weighs a ton but the image quality is superb. Paid abt 90 GBP on eBay for mine but I think they are going for about 180 GBP now.
I have the a300 which I truely love. Have been checking out the a900 and have seen very good reviews about it. I hope to upgrade within the next year. I have been using all my old Minolta lenses which is why i purchased a sony and have had no problems. As David suggested source out some of the Minolta lenses. I have one of the 28-135/w macro and love it. It is heavy but it's my primary lens. I don't go anywhere without it.The old Minolta lenses are built well so if you can find them bonus.
Thanks guys this has all really helped. I have a TON of old Minolta lenses from my 2 x700's. It funny i bought an adapter for my 50d and have been using my Minolta lenses on her.The glass is just soo much better. If anyone else has any comments please feel free. I would love to hear more ...thanks everyone =)

Well just to give some more insight to lenses and the A900. I currently have the a300 and have been checking ou the 1-105. Well I was in sony's web page checking out the lenses and the 16-105 is $100 off great I thought then read a warning. Now I'm starting to thing again. I posted the warning about DT lenses and full frame cameras. Not sure I want to waste $600.00 now If i'm thinking of upgrading.
"Advisory when using DT lenses with full-frame (35mm equivalent) DSLR cameras.Sony α (alpha) lenses with the Digital Technology (DT) designation are ideal for use on APS-C size DSLR cameras and are not recommended for use with full frame DSLR camera bodies (such as the DSLR-A900). Although DT lenses can be used with full frame cameras, they can only realize a maximum of 11MP image size (when using the DSLR-A900), and are not guaranteed to provide accurate Auto Exposure performance. "
I think I need to know a lot more about what you are using the tools for before I could give any useful advice on which tools to purchase.
What camera are you using now? What does it lack that makes you want to upgrade?
What features does the Sony camera have that you like?
What subject matter and shooting situations are typical for you?
Do you mean 5D mkII? Does that mean you already have an investment in Canon lenses and gear?
It appears to me that the 5Dii and A-900 are remarkably similar.
i'm currently (digital wise) a canon 50d. however the lenses i haven't aren't anything that i could slap onto the 5d. I do however have a tonne of Minolta lenses that are top of the line from my x700's. that's why i was looking at the sony. as far as work that i do.....EVERYTHING. i try to mostly to do weddings and portraiture, cause thats my thing, but i have done everything from car racing, to dance recitals, to raves. a lot of low light, and i find myself fighting with the 50d in the higher iso.I also need a camera that can do build board work for me. I figured that having to buy all new lenses and body for the 5d, it would come out the exact same if i bought the sony. The reason i would not like to get the 5d is because everyone and there dog here in saskatoon has one, or some kind of canon slr's. ( people just buy them out here) I was looking at the sony, due to the fact that i don't know of a single photographer out here that has one. I like to be different =)
The reason for the question onto what people think of this camera, is because i feel that the digital sony cameras are not well respected, and i have heard that they have a lot of flaws. therefore i wanted to hear what people had to say about them, before i thought of getting one =)
