sunpak PZ42X

how can I effectively control the flash settings on my sunpak PZ42X flash. Please review the attached photos and you will see what I mean.

How are you currently using it? Bouncing it? I'd suggest expirimenting with putting the flash on a stand and shooting it through an umbrella.
