Hmmmmmm, Tough one! I was lusting after the Sigma 300 to 800 at $10,000, but I might just have to say that Canon 1200mm would be the ultimate! $120k? Even if I had the money I think the husband would kill me!
I'd also like the sigma 4.5mm f/2.8. That one's not too bad at $900. I'd only die a couple of minor deaths for that one...
Even if your husband didn't kill you, carrying the lens would break your back! This lens was discontinued for many years but with all the chatter here i am assuming it has been re-introduced?
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
Canon's fabled 50mm F1.0, The 1ds Mk III and the 500mm F4.0
I am very happy with my D300, so the pieces of equipment I most want now, in order, are:
- Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 DX, but I'd gladly settle for the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 HSM

- Nikon SB900 speedlight with 10' stand and umbrella bracket, plus SB600 with 6' Stand and Umbrella Bracket and umbrellas, gels and a Sto-fen diffuser for the 600

- Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VRII (it's last on my list because I have the 80-200 f2.8 D)
Since we are all just dreaming or lusting I have the Hasselblad H3D-II DSLR. "That's not to much to ask is it?"

"... Here is the gear I really want. I think about it all the time. None of it exists yet, at least that I'm aware of.

A Canon or Nikon APS-C format compact digital camera. I want a small camera with a sensor from any of their entry level cameras of the last 4 years or so. Don't refer me to Sigma's DP or micro 4/3rds whatever. Those are intriguing, but I want ISO 800+ that's at least as good as my old 20D.

Remote flash power control. I want a flash unit that I can adjust the manual flash output from the camera or a remote unit. I'm not familiar with all the remote flash option out there, so possibly someone already offers this. Canon and Pocket Wizard don't. I was sure it would be included in the new PWs, but I don't think it is. It seems like a simple enough request; I just don't want to walk over to the lightstands every time I want to adjust flash power."

The Nikon D-90 is fairly compact, takes the non AF-S lenses, and the flash can trigger Nikon's Creative Lighting System . The D90's on camera flash can serve as a commander for up to 2 groups of multiple(unlimited) lights each.

It is not really compact, but it is a smaller end, medium size DSLR.
The mythical Nikon D800X LOL
John
The Nikkor 24mm PC Tilt/Shift lens. I like to do architectural work and a perspective control lens can't be beat. And only $2,000. :-(
Right now i'm looking at several items. hmmm need to make more $$. Any way I'm looking at purchasing a 11-18 wide angle, 16-105 to replace my 18-70 as it's not a very good lens, and maybe in a couple of years a Sony a900 body full frame 24.2mp. Sooooo if anyone wants to get me something for Christmas. But for now i'm still deciding between the 11-18 or the 16-105.
I've not tried the Sony 11-18, but I have got a Sigma 10-20 and it is great...! I nearly always use mine at 10mm.
