hi there, I've just joined this network 2 days ago. I'm a real beginner, and I'm planning to buy a Digital SLR Camera.

can anyone tell me if Canon 450D is a good buy with excellent image?
What about Nikon and Sony?

Thanks

Welcome Glen. I have one I just bought and it will be a great choise for you. I think you will love it.
Hey and Welcome!

Canon is a solid buy.

If you already haven't, try looking into Olympus. The Olympus E-volt 420 and 520 are an excellent buy for your money, you can get a good deal right now almost anywhere, for $500-$600CDN you will get a body and 2 lens kit 14-42mm and 40-150mm.

An older (last years) E-volt 510 is still solid, better feel then the 520, 10mp, IS in body and the BEST Dust Buster system in any DSLR.

They are light, solid, and take amazing pics.
thanks for the advice......I'll head down to the shop this afternoon and see what I can find.......
You cannot go wrong with Nikon and Canon...They are the strongest in the bunch.
cool, I've bought the Canon EOS 450D last weekend:-))))
Go try all the models in your budget, and then consider, when you buy a DSLR, you're buying not just a single camera body, you're buying into the system. Canon and Nikon offer the best systems, with shops all over the world stocking lenses, flashes, back-up bodies, and other equipment you may want to buy or rent. Others lack that pro-level market penetration, but some offer killer deals on very nice cameras... for instance, the Sony Alpha 900 packs a big bang for your buck at around $3k.

Currently, the Nikon D90 offers the best photo quality for any camera < $1,000, but I'm sure Canon will have an answer to that in the next round of body roll-outs.

The good news is that all the big players are making outstanding cameras that deliver very good value for your money. I can't tell you which camera to buy. Go hold them. Snap some test photos. Have somebody explain to you the pros and cons of one system over another.

Currently, Canon offers excellent value for landscape photographers, delivering lots of megapixels to capture a huge amount of fine detail, while Nikon's offerings are leading in the low-noise department, making them excellent for photojournalism, sports, and event photography.

That said, Nikon just announced the D3x... reviews aren't in yet, but it looks like it'll go head to head with Canon's flagship high-resolution studio DSLR.
thanks again for the advice..:-))))
i started out with a canon rebel xti, now i think they have a new one out the xsi, but it was an awesome camera for a beginner and it was very reasonably priced. hope this helps.

regards,
nathaniel
