Why enter Photography contests?

Hi guys. I know joining photography contests are a great way to get exposure for your work,but I was wondering what are your other reasons, aside from that? :)

thanks for your insight. :)) i've never entered photography contests before because i thought i'd never win anything anyway. :) there are lots of things to learn from other folks. :3

in a local phone company calendar contest i get 50 bucks per picture

it isnt much money but it helps

several years ago i entered two pictures and they both got into the calendar

i took a few years break

this year i entered 15 pictures

that gives my a possible pay day of 50 to 600 dollars

add that to my 600 per month SSI it isnt bad at all

there looking for 12 pictures

50 bucks per picture

i sent them through there contest email

I enter various ones as a means to push me to shoot things and ideas that I would not normally get the chance to do. Most teh stuff I enter is just your run of the mill online contests through various web sites I frequent. But if I see a topic or challenge for a shot that is outside my normal comfort zone I try to enter to just push myself into new areas
