Has anyone come up with a good baseline for the settings in the 3100 ? This is my first DSLR after using film cameras for 100 years and I'm a bit lost with the settingsContinue

I'm always amazed with the results that I get from my D3100.

@Amit Mathur - I was in the situation you were, but bought the 55-200.  hated it! - the lens was OK, but the changing was terrible.  I shot a lot of my kids sports and it was a big pain sold it within a month.  I got the Sigma 18 to 250.  It is now my main lens.  I have had mine a month now and haven't taken it off.  worth the money to me.

Hey Guys till now I have been using Nikon 3100 with the basic Nikkor 18-55 lens VR that comes with it. But not I am planning to buy a tamron 18-200 lens. Can anyone of you suggest us that should I go with it or not.
Like I can also go for Nikkor 55-200 but I don't want to create headache by changing my lens again and again as per the requirements.
Guys please do suggest me that what should I do.

Hey guys. Just got my Nikon D3100 yesterday. I am a Canon EOS convert, and am eager to really learn how to take full advantage of my new camera. I look forward to talking to you guys and seeing the pics.

Hi, Just got my D3100 3 weeks ago, also the 55-300 zoom lense.  I have already shot about 2500 pictures while I was visiting back in MD and FL.  I like Nature and old Barns.  I am going to start taking pictures for a business. I allow my eye to tell me what is good, I have shot some nice pictures so far. My other camera in an Olympus 5060 wide angle.

Hi I am new to this site as well as new to DLSR and photography all together.  I just bought my Nikon D3100 and have so much to learn.  I joined this site and a few groups in hopes to learn and understand my camera better.  I have dabbled in amature photography using a Sony Cyber Shot DSC H-1 but my photos are not what I would call "Breath taking"  I love to take pictures but eventually would like to become more Pro like!  Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks :-)
